Genesis Homes are house building developers that are dedicated to building spacious, elegant and practical homes. Based in Cumbria Genesis Homes have several sites being developed and properties ready to sell. The company ethos is ‘It just works’ and the team at Genesis Homes pride themselves on building homes that ‘just work’ in a way each individual family wants to enjoy their home.

We spoke to Joe Abernethy, who is the Financial Controller for the company. Joe was heavily involved in the implementation of Construction Manager at Genesis Homes from researching the market to find a solution, to using the software daily.

Genesis Homes initially started looking for a system to help deal with their CIS and contract management processes. They were originally using Sage 50 Accounts alongside the Sage CIS and Projects module.

Joe had previously used Construction Manager at a previous company and was therefore keen to explore the potential benefits it could offer with one of our product specialists.

Joe commented “The main challenge we found using Sage on its own to manage our contracts is the amount of manual work required in spreadsheets to analyse data. We also wanted to be able to see a subcontractor creditor liability net of CIS tax for cash flow forecasting”.

Once the team at Genesis Homes had seen the software in one of our live demonstrations, they were happy that it would add value to the company. “We liked the familiarity of using Construction Manager alongside Sage Accounts because I had seen the benefits for myself in another business. The personal nature of service and support, and the implementation costs were also very reasonable”.

Construction Manager is contract management software designed for the construction industry and seamlessly integrates with Sage 50. Construction Manager saves time and money by reducing inputting time considerably. Construction Manager also provides a Job Management Reporting screen showing up to date Profit & Loss, and Work In Progress for each job at the click of a button.

Genesis Homes have been successfully using Construction Manager now for over 12 months. Joe concluded “Using Construction Manager has had a positive impact on the day to day administration of the business. It gives us a central place for purchase ordering and makes business information available to all without the more confidential areas like bank balances and payroll being accessible.”

Joe also informs us of how Construction Manager has had a significant impact by saving time. He continued, “Staff have adapted well to the software, and only a small amount of change to company processes was needed. Construction Manager works in a very simple way and is very similar to Sage. The most time saving part of the software for us is the purchase ordering module as there is less invoice authorisation needed and analysis of invoices and costs is a lot quicker than using spreadsheets.”
